Miki Sawada
Pianist & Founder of Gather Hear
Pianist Miki Sawada, whose performance made The Boston Globe’s list “Best of the Arts 2021: The classical concerts that made me fall in love with live music again,” is a fearless musician who is taking classical music where others are not.
Although Gather Hear is her passion project, she maintains an active schedule within the traditional classical circuit as well. She has performed in North America, Europe, and Asia at venues and occasions such as: Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Helsinki Music Centre, Oneppo Chamber Music Series at Yale, Toronto Summer Music Festival, Music on Main (Vancouver), Chicago Symphony Center’s Macy’s Day of Music, the Banff Centre, and radio stations WQXR (NYC), WFMT (Chicago), and KUAC (Fairbanks). When in NYC, she is active in the new music scene and performs at venues such as Roulette, Joe’s Pub, Spectrum, DiMenna Center, and MATA festival. In the summers, she serves as a faculty member of Heifetz Institute. Miki holds degrees from Yale School of Music, Eastman School of Music, and Northwestern University.

Miki is an ultramarathon runner and recently raced her longest distance of 80 miles through the Idaho mountains. She lives in Boston with her violinist husband Kristopher Tong (Borromeo Quartet) and German Shepherd mix rescue dog named Shakira.
